Penile Xenon-133 Washout Study : Screening for Impotence due to Venous Leakage

Abstract

|
25 normal volunteers(mean age, 22.52 years)and 16 impotent patients(mean age, 45.25) entered this study for evaluation of venous competence of corpus cavernosum. Date were acquired in frame mode after intracorporeal injection on one side of
midshaft of
0.1-0.2ml(0.5)-1.2mCi) of xenon-133 in saline for 30 min. Half-time clearance (T1/2) and penile blood flow(Q) were used for evaluation.
We found that there were increased venous leakage in early erection phase, nearly absent venous leakage in erection persistent phase and more increased venous leakage in the detumescent phase in the potent men. In the patients group, the results
were
different as to the etiology of erectile dysfunction. There were increased venous leakage in the vasculogenic impotence, Peyronie's disease and penile fibrosis. But there was nearly absent venous leakage in the psychogenic and neurogenic
impotence.
